2027 Ski for Light International Week

To apply to attend the 2027 Ski for Light International Week as a Visually-impaired Participant please complete and submit the application form below.

If you have not already done so, please read the details of the 2027 Ski for Light International Event and the frequently asked questions about the event, as they contain much information that you will need to know before submitting your application.

After you submit your form, you will receive a copy of your submission, sent to the email address that you provide below.

    14. What will your age be at the end of the 2027 SFL week (01/23/2027)?

    16. What is your height, in feet and inches?

    17. What is your weight, in pounds, required for guide/skier matching?

    18. Are you legally blind?

    Legal blindness is defined as visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better-corrected eye, or a visual field of 20 degrees or less in the better eye.

    20. If you are legally blind, which of the following best describes your level of vision?

    21. Do you have a hearing impairment?


    23. Is your level of hearing while skiing, as augmented by any aids or devices as listed above, sufficient for you to hear the spoken instructions of your guide? The ability to hear the spoken instructions of your guide while skiing is a condition of acceptance to Ski for Light.

    24. Have you previously attended an in-person Ski for Light International Week (do not include the 2021 or 2022 Virtual events)?

    Room and Meals

    27. Your Day of Arrival at the Event

    Most participants will arrive in West Yellowstone on Sunday January 17, 2027, which is the official start of the SFL week. There are no event activities prior to this day for participants. Arrival exceptions exist for event organizers, who must arrive from one to three days early to do all of the work necessary to get ready for a successful week. Please indicate below the day that you currently anticipate checking into the Holiday Inn or Gray wolf Inn in West Yellowstone.

    28. Housing for the week: We will be using three separate buildings on the grounds of Snow Mountain Ranch for lodging.

    Lodging For The Week

    We will be using three separate buildings on the grounds of Snow Mountain Ranch for lodging. The rooms in all three buildings have a private bathroom, in room telephone and wireless internet access, but none contain a television. Linens and towels are provided. Each building has a central lounge area for games and relaxation, with free tea and coffee service.

    • Indian Peaks Lodge is a traditional hotel type building. each of the 79 rooms in Indian Peaks contains two queen beds, a sofa sleeper, a mini fridge, a microwave oven, a table with two chairs, an end table and a balcony or patio. There is a dresser and a nightstand. There is hanging space opposite the sink.

    • Aspenbrook Lodge is a ski lodge or bunk house type building. Each of the 47 rooms in Aspenbrook contains two queen beds with a nightstand between, and one set of bunk beds. There is no dresser. There is a hanging bar with a shelf above for clothes. There is no closet.

    • Silver Sage Lodge is also a ski lodge or bunk house type building. Each of the 47 rooms in Silver sage contains one queen bed and two sets of bunk beds. There is no dresser. There is a nightstand by the queen bed. There is a hanging bar for clothes with a shelf above. There is no closet.

    Your total cost for the week will depend on which of the available options you select below.

    Prices shown include: room and all meals from Sunday evening January 17 through Sunday morning January 27; round-trip transportation between the Bozeman airport and West Yellowstone (on designated days and at designated times); all cross-country trail and other fees; and most afternoon and evening programs and activities. Cross-country skis, boots and poles will be provided free of charge to first-time visually-impaired participants. The cost of transportation from home to and from Bozeman is the responsibility of the participant. Full payment is due from all accepted applicants by November 15, 2026.


    30. Any visually-impaired participant with a financial need who resides in the United States, who is not requesting a single room, and who is not arriving early at the event is eligible to apply for a stipend to partially offset the cost of attending the Event. Stipend amounts will usually range between 30% and 60% of the event fee. If you would like to receive an application for such assistance please so indicate below.

    31. Do you anticipate bringing a guide dog to SFL?

    Those planning to bring a guide dog to SFL should be aware that dogs may not be left unattended at the ski area, or allowed to run free on the ski trails. As a practical matter, guide dogs must, therefore, be left in your hotel room while you are away skiing. Your dog will need to be able to handle several hours of being alone in your room each day.

    32. Are you willing to room with a person bringing a guide dog?

    33. Please indicate below which of the three available menu plans would be your choice for dinners during the week. Please be aware that all entrees for each of the three plans will be gluten free.

    Please note that the Standard, Pescatarian and vegan menu plans are the only three menu options that will be available during the week. Thank you for understanding and cooperating with these choices.

    Skiing Information and Preferences

    35. What is your current level of cross-country skiing ability?

    39. In which event do you currently plan to participate on Saturday, race and rally day?

    40. How important is it to you to have a guide who will focus on teaching you improved ski techniques?


    42. The number of visually- and mobility-impaired applicants who can be admitted to attend each event is based on how many instructor guides have applied to attend. If there is an unexpected shortage of guides due to last minute cancellations, what would be your preferred guide/skier arrangement?

    43. Will you need rental cross-country ski equipment? Cross-country skis, poles and boots will be provided free of charge to first-time visually-impaired participants, and will be available for rental by all others. The rental skis are Rossignol brand, and are waxless.

    44. If you will need rental cross-country ski boots during the week, what shoe size do you wear?

    45. If you will need rental cross-country ski boots during the week and have indicated above the shoe size that you wear, is that size a U.S. male size, a U.S. female size, a U.K. size, or a European size?

    Other Information

    46. Program Schedule

    Everyone attending the event will receive a print version of the schedule of the week's activities in their registration packet, and by e-mail prior to the start of the event. In addition to these versions, would you like to receive a Braille or large-print version of the schedule in your registration packet?

    47. Attendee List

    Ski for Light distributes a list of attendees to each person coming to the event, by e-mail, prior to the start of the event. Included on the list are each person's name, city and state (or country) of residence, and e-mail address. If you would like your name and contact information excluded from this list, please so indicate by checking the box below.

    48. The Ski for Light Bulletin

    The Ski for Light Bulletin is a newsletter that informs people in the SFL community about events and activities of interest. It is distributed three times a year. Which edition of the Ski for Light Bulletin would you like to receive?
